It is mandatory for any elevator as per the standards to have DOS OR DONTS displayed in an elevator car. It is important one calls for outside help which is done by pressing an emergency bell. This is battery operated, hence designed to operate even without electric power.
The elevator car also has a battery-operated light which gets lit inn case of a power failure, thereby eliminating the fear of darkness in passengers mind.
Most of the modern elevators are also equipped with intercom communication which is inbuilt in the car operating panel and is connected to the buildings’ control room .This allows the stuck passenger to inform and call for outside help.
Most of the elevator manufacturers or service providers have 24x7 helpline to rescue what in elevator terminology called ‘man-trapped’ situation within 20-30 minutes, Wherever this service is not provided the facility persons group of persons in the building are trained and certified to rescue trapped passengers. The elevator manufacturers of service providers insist on following a process of certification for the persons they train. This is to ensure no incompetent person is involved in rescuing a trapped person.
