On April 13, 2025, The Hindu reported that a 39-year-old man, Akbar Patel, lost his life in a lift mishap at a residential apartment complex in Suraram, Medchal. According to the police, the victim was trying to retrieve a cricket ball that had fallen into the lift shaft from the cellar level. As he leaned in, the elevator, positioned on an upper floor, was suddenly activated. It descended and struck him fatally on the head. He died on the spot.
